Embracing the In-Between: A Season of Waiting and Learning as an Artist

Hey there, fellow artists! Today, I want to share with you a season I'm currently experiencing - a season of waiting. You know that feeling, right? It's that in-between phase of life where things are uncertain and the answers seem far away. As I sit here writing this message, I find myself anxiously waiting for our big move from the bustling streets of Chicago to the vibrant shores of Miami. Let me tell you, relocating my home, studio, and gallery businesses has turned into quite the journey.
In the Art World, Waiting is Part of the Journey
Now, let's talk about those waiting seasons in our art careers. Maybe you're eagerly anticipating the outcome of a show you entered, or perhaps you're anxiously checking your inbox for news about a residency program you applied to. It could even be that you're waiting for a response to an email you sent to a gallery. We've all been there, my friends, and it's during these waiting periods that we often find ourselves learning the most.
Embracing the Learning Seasons
In this season of waiting, I've come to realize that these in-between moments are valuable learning seasons. They have something to teach us if we're willing to tune in to the white space. You see, sometimes we get so caught up in the busyness of our art careers that we neglect the space for new ideas to flourish. We convince ourselves that we have everything figured out, or we simply don't have the time to explore new possibilities. But this in-between season has opened my eyes to the beauty of the white space.
Tuning in to the White Space
So, my fellow artists, I encourage you to embrace the white space during those waiting seasons. Take a break, step back, and allow yourself to tune in. You may be surprised by the abundance of inspiration and knowledge waiting to be discovered. It's in these moments of pause that our creativity can truly flourish.
Discovering New Ideas and Perspectives
For me, this season of waiting has given me the opportunity to explore new ideas that I had previously put on hold. I'm discovering fresh approaches, experimenting with different techniques, and challenging my own artistic boundaries. It's a liberating feeling to allow myself the time and space to pursue these ideas that had been lingering in the background.
The Beauty of the In-Between
As much as I long to move forward, I've come to appreciate the beauty found within the in-between. It's a season of growth, where we can reflect on our artistic journey, reassess our goals, and gain clarity about our creative path. The waiting itself becomes a transformative experience, a time for self-discovery and introspection.
